"Complete" Maternity Care involves prenatal, intra-partum, and postnatal care

Prenatal Care

  • Medical/Pregnancy History

  • Risk assessment

  • Nutritional counseling & Sickness management

  • All lab work including Blood grouping, Rhesus factor, Antibody screening, Hematocrit/Hemoglobin, HIV, etc.

  • Urinalysis

  • Blood pressure monitoring

  • Weight gain assessment

  • On going fetal well being assessment

  • 24 hour access to your chosen care provider

  • Relaxation techniques

  • Pregnancy/Childbirth education

  • Sonograms available

  • Prenatal Massage and Shiatsu by a registered massage therapist

  • Information on venues for birth

 

Intra-partum Care (Birth)

  • Full labor assessment, including dilatation, effacement, fetal position, blood pressure monitoring, continuing fetal well-being assessment, etc.

  • Pain management without drugs

  • Relaxation including, massage, aromatherapy, water therapy, etc.

  • All equipment for birth provided

  • Emergency equipment if needed

  • Water birth

  • Techniques for avoiding episiotomies or tears including warm oil massage, warm compresses, etc.

  • Full family involvement with birth process

  • Delivery of new baby to parents

  • Full new baby examination with parents.

  • Trained to cover emergency procedures (cord around the neck is rarely a medical emergency)

  • Information record provided

  • Antibiotic for eyes (State Requirement)

  • Breast feeding education & assistance

  • Postnatal instructions given verbally and written

  • Newborn metabolic screening (PKU)

  • Eden Song Midwives and apprentices are qualified in NNR and CPR.

 

 Postnatal Care

  • Birth Certificate Filed

  • Social Security Number arranged

  • As many post natal visits as necessary for the parents lasting for 6-8 weeks

  • Continuing breast feeding assistance

  • Continuing assessment of infant well being

  • Continuing assessment of maternal well being

  • Family dynamics/Sibling advice

  • Family Planning Counseling
